Fibro-what? Who are you, exactly?
FibroFibers is a brand of hand-dyed yarn originated by Jen Hintz. The name FibroFibers refers to a chronic medical condition called fibromyalgia which causes pain throughout the body, crushing fatigue, and a number of other symptoms. Jen actually discovered her love of all things fiber-arts when she took up knitting after having to leave her last "regular job" because she suffers from the disorder, so fiber arts and fibromyalgia will always be linked in her mind. Starting her own fiber business was a way to continue doing what she loves while generating income and allowing herself the flexibility of tasks and scheduling that she was unlikely to find at any other job. It was one of the best decisions she ever made.
Starting in 2011, FibroFibers formed an alliance with Brooke Lane of Erudite Fibers. Brooke is now dyeing some millspun yarns under the FibroFibers banner in addition to her own Erudite Fibers branded handspun yarns, spinning fibers, and drumcarded batts. Jen will also be doing some crossover projects under the Erudite Fibers brand. This collaboration allows us both to explore the full range of fiber arts, and we're excited to share the results with our customers.
Where's your factory?
There's no factory, just us. Every skein is dyed (and some handspun) right here in our homes near Charlotte, North Carolina. We like to think of ourselves as a two-woman empire, although Jen has two cats who occupy supervisory roles and Brooke has a support staff consisting of an adorable but crazy min-pin and a beautiful daughter.
Why should I buy your yarn? I can find some at the craft store for less money.
You can buy yarn at any craft store for less money. What you can't buy there is yarn that is handmade by an independent artist one skein at a time. Every single skein we make is unique and can never be exactly duplicated; as such, the things you make from it will be doubly unique with our colors and your stitches. Also, a portion of the proceeds from each skein sold on this site is donated to the National Fibromyalgia Research Association to help fund research and education about fibromyalgia. By buying FibroFibers yarn, you're helping to find treatments and even a cure for tens of millions of people all over the world.
